Dr. Katina Sawyer named Philadelphia Business Journals "40 Under 40" Class of 2017!
Villanova University Assistant Professor of Psychology and Graduate Programs in Human Resource Development, Dr. Katina Sawyer has been named to Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2017 40 Under 40 list. The annual award aims to identify and recognize current and future leaders in various industries and the community in the Philadelphia region. This is the 27th year the Philadelphia Business Journal has put on the award.
Dr. Sawyer's area of research is industrial-organizational psychology, which centers around applying psychological theory to workplace issues. She specifically examines gender, race, sexuality and class-based diversity issues within the workplace. Dr. Sawyer has also done research on work-family conflict, negative workplace behaviors, and positive psychology. A current area of research for Dr. Sawyer is looking at male champions - men who are committed to the development of women to leadership positions - and the behaviors they exude to create diverse and inclusive environments. (Learn more about the male champions research from Dr. Sawyer in this past episode of #VUHRDConversations.)
“I’m extremely honored to have been nominated by my peers for the award and hope this recognition shines a light on these important issues that impact almost everyone,” said Dr. Sawyer. “On average, people spend up to 70 percent of their lives at work. Ensuring that the workplace is an inclusive place for everyone, regardless of identity, spurs business success and bolsters employee well-being.”
