Mergers & Acquisitions with HR Analytics from the Cigna CHRO's Perspective

On Tuesday night, Villanova’s HRD program hosted an event that provided students with insight into who Cigna is as a company, where they plan to go, and how you can get your career started with them. John Murabito, Jaime Presutto, Stephanie Pallante, and John Lipkin are all part of Cigna’s HR function and were all excellent resources for our students.

Cigna is one of the worlds leading global health services companies operating in over 30 countries. They currently employ over 45,000 people and with the upcoming merger with Express Scripts announced last March, they will grow to more than 75,000. They are a mission-based company and find themselves ranked annually in the Fortune 500 list of companies. This year, they are proud to be ranked #73. Yeah, they’re doing something right!

Jaime Presutto, Global Talent Acquisition for Cigna, first spoke to the students at the event about the facts of the company. Who they are, what they are, and how they plan to become better in the future. She talked financials, she talked data, but what caught my attention was when she talked about company dynamics and how her experience at Cigna has been nothing short of enjoyable.

Speaking of an enjoyable work experience, the CHRO definitely confirmed that the company culture at Cigna is desirable. John Murabito, CHRO at Cigna, was the keynote speaker at the event and talked about mergers and acquisitions from a CHRO perspective. John has been with the company for more than 15 years and seen many changes with Cigna over the years.

John started off talking about mergers and acquisitions and gave some helpful tips and information about how a great HR function deals with a merger. John has been heading an HR department for more than 18 years and has experienced a few mergers/acquisitions—so he really knows what he is talking about! He spoke about what the timelines for the process should look like. He explained HR analytics and how it really is dominating HR to help make better decisions about your workforce. He encouraged the student audience to take any and all classes that would develop their HR analytics expertise. John’s passion for HR was inspiring, and it really puts into perspective what a successful career in HR can look like.
