Exciting Things in 2019 for VUHRD!
Happy New Year! We hope that your 2019 is off to an amazing start! This year, we have some exciting and new events planned for students and our HR community, so we thought we would kick off the new year with a blog post outlining all of those exciting things to come! Drum roll, please...
#HRTEA - A Brand New HR Podcast
Starting next week, we will be launching our very own HR podcast called HR Tea! We know there are dozens of amazing HR podcasts out there that you already follow and we hope HR Tea will be added to that list. HR Tea will take trending topics in HR, steep them for 30 minutes or less (It's tea... it steeps) and leave you with fresh-brewed ideas (we are full of the tea puns) on how to drive high-performing, inclusive organizations and create meaningful work experiences. Our VUHRD podcasting team includes two of our Graduate Assistants, Conor Kennedy and Brittany Chapman, and our HR Tea host and VUHRD Associate Director, Bethany Adams.
#VUHRDANR - Save the date, April 15th, for the VUHRD Annual Networking Reception Featuring Keynote Speaker Steve Browne!
We are GEEKED to announce that Steve Browne, SHRM-SCP, VP of HR at LaRosa's Inc, member of the SHRM Board of Directors and author of HR on Purpose!! will be our 2019 VUHRDANR Keynote Speaker! If you are a member of the #HRTribe, you already know that Steve is a passionate HR leader and influencer who is well known for connecting HR professionals all over the world. The VUHRDANR brings together HR professionals, students, alumni and our local HR community for a night of networking and learning. We can't wait to hear Steve speak and hope that you will be about to join us for this amazing evening. HR Graduate Student Case Competition
This year Villanova University will host our first ever Human Resource Graduate Student Case Competition. Students will utilize their strategic HR knowledge to analyze a business case and make a recommended HR solution. The competition will be a one-day event on March 9th where teams of three students will present their solution to a panel of judges. The top two teams will receive complimentary tickets for them and a guest to attend the VUHRD Annual Networking Reception on April 15th. Each member of the winning team will receive complimentary registration to the SHRM19 Annual Conference & Exposition (a $350 value) to be held June 23-26, 2019 in Las Vegas, NV and $500 towards travel reimbursement! VUSHRM Spring Events
The Villanova Student SHRM chapter has a mix of events planned for students this Spring semester. We will kick off the semester with a happy hour this Friday, January 18th at The Great American Pub in Wayne, PA. Professional development events planned for the semester include a seminar on unconscious bias led by VUHRD Adjunct Faculty member, Jameel Rush, a CliftonStrengths Assessment Workshop in February to gain a better understanding of how to leverage your strengths, and a webinar in March on the SHRM Competency Model to gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to be a successful HR professional. Villanova HRD Graduation
Every May we get very excited to celebrate our graduates from both the online and campus program's achievements. This year, Villanova will hold a Graduate Commencement ceremony, and we hope that if you are graduating or already graduated this year, you will join us as we honor you! VUHRD will be holding a reception for our graduates prior to the commencement ceremony. This gives students an opportunity to connect with one another, bring their families to campus and connect with their professors from the program! More information about the VUHRD Reception will be emailed later in the semester and for more details on the university commencement, check out the graduation website.
SHRM19 - We will see you in Las Vegas booth #1771!
Once again, VUHRD will be exhibiting at the SHRM19 Annual Conference and Exposition. We have exciting things planned for our booth this year, including a fun giveaway and a basketball competition! If you are planning to attend the conference be sure to stop by booth 1771 to see us!
