FALL in Love With HRD - VUSHRM October Newsletter
As the weather gets colder and the leaves turn red, it can be hard to leave the comfort of your couch. Lucky for you, most VUSHRM events are virtual – so no need to change out of those sweatpants! This past month has been packed with event after event for our VUSHRM members! With both familiar and new faces at our October webinar and our first Town Hall, we are excited to continue diving into HR topics and developing ourselves as HR professionals.
At our October webinar, we had guest speaker, Dave Mazeffa, who shared his experience working in HR and in HR solutions. The conversation centered around using speed and data to find and match quality employees with companies that are facing high turnover, especially in hourly and front-line roles. Through creative recruiting and application services, Dave and his team have created solutions that help to mitigate the struggles and problems that these organizations face. Check out the recording of this session on our website for more insight and connect with Dave Mazeffa here!
Outside of VUSHRM planned programming, we encourage our members and students to attend local networking and HR events to connect with the community and meet other HR professionals. The HR Social Network, a new networking group that prides itself on professional friendship and low-pressure networking events, had hosted an event at Twenty One Pips in Ardmore. Many of our HRD students attended and were able to meet HR professionals that are working in Philly and the surrounding areas! Join the HRSN (HR Social Network) group on LinkedIn for future events and to connect with other members.
Our final VUSHRM event of October was our first Town Hall! With great conversation on HR topics and the phenomenon of “company catfishing” and a “get to know HRD” Kahoot game, we had such a great time with our fellow HRD and VUSHRM members. These Town Halls will be happening monthly, so if you were unable to make this one do not worry as there will be another opportunity soon!

The Great Awakening
The pandemic has undoubtedly changed the landscape of work while serving as the catalyst for employees to reexamine what is meaningful for them – in their jobs and in their lives. Using this lens, you can recategorize the Great Resignation as the “Great Awakening.” Rather than seeing this phenomenon as a threat, forward-thinking companies are using it as an opportunity to think about the future of work and how they can keep their employees engaged and fulfilled.
